Venting

The Zodiac Automotive Division began manufacturing airbags back in 1994. In 1997, the company invented membrane venting technology for airbags. Traditional airbags are vented through either holes in the airbag fabric or break-away sew stitching.

Zodiac’s membranes consist of a silicone-based formula and can either burst at a given pressure, or expand in certain areas of the membrane to allow some gas to vent out of the airbag. This innovative silicone membrane technology can reduce cost by shortening manufacturing and sewing times.
